Flicker Filmworks is an award winning production company specializing in unscripted content for film, television and digital platforms. Laura deNey is an Emmy award-winning producer and editor, who tells hidden stories from around the world, with a focus on culture, environment and the arts. Currently, Laura directs and executive produces “Going From Broke,” a documentary series created by Ashton Kutcher which helps young people get out of student loan debt. An editor/producer with a strong storytelling focus, Laura has edited dozens of hours of documentary programming including cultural work for National Geographic, award-winning feminist documentaries for PBS, a variety of Anthony Bourdain’s series including “No Reservations” and “The Layover,” and most recently the new CNN series NOMAD starring one of the first Black Master Sommeliers, Carlton McCoy. She co-edited Bourdain’s award-winning feature film “WASTED! The Story of Food Waste," for which she was entrusted with researching the facts about climate change and ecology. Laura is co-owner of Flicker Filmworks, and executive produced two seasons of the Emmy Award-nominated series “Hidden Heroes,” films about climate resilience for the DEC, short films and docs for Chicken Soup for the Soul studios, and the virtual concert of the movie “Clouds” on Disney+.
As co-owner of Flicker Filmworks, Laura heads up development and is responsible for creative ideation, casting, and finding iconic stories that are in line with our mission of social change.
Mustafa Bhagat (ACE) is an Emmy award-winning producer, editor and verité cinematographer. He is best known for his work with Anthony Bourdain as co-producer and editor for all his documentary projects for 13 years. The “Senegal” episode of Parts Unknown garnered Mustafa an ACE editing award in 2017 and the “Kenya” episode with W. Kamau Bell won an Emmy for writing in 2019. Mustafa is a highly in demand and technical editor, creating films and commercials for high end clients such as Chobani, Breville, Tumi, Nissan, (RED), AirBnb, Disney+. Mustafa’s passion for culture, travel, food and music permeates all his work. For the CNN series NOMAD (2022), Mustafa was brought on to develop, produce and co-direct the first episode, and stay on as lead editor through post production. A technologist at heart, Mustafa has harnessed the latest technology to develop and implement remote workflows for production and post production since 2008. Mustafa is co-owner of Flicker Filmworks, and executive produced Ashton Kutcher’s documentary series “Going From Broke”, “Hidden Heroes” for Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, a documentary concert film for the band Bright Eyes, and the virtual concert of the movie “Clouds” on Disney+.
Mustafa runs Flicker Filmworks with his partner, Laura deNey in the Hudson Valley of New York. When not making films he can be found strumming sweet melodies on his sitar.
